Raising Your Child to Become a Responsible Person
When you live in the same place for your entire life, it is easy to take many things for granted. Adults and kids alike often don’t appreciate most of the advantages that come with living in America. As parents and teachers, how can we instill a sense of being a responsible citizen in our children?
This process is not easy or simple, but there are a number of tips and guidelines that can help with the process:
Stress the importance of following the rules.
The concept of “laws” can be difficult for children, but most kids are familiar with the idea of rules. Just like there are rules to following at home and at school, there are rules that the our country’s government has us follow. The government is responsible for the leadership or authority as well as the enforcement of the laws. When children have a solid understanding of what laws are and how they can follow them, they are more likely to do so.
Every person born in the United States gets automatic US citizenship. When people are honest with themselves and others and live for the same goal of bettering their own country, they develop a sense of patriotism. People who are patriotic love their country wholeheartedly and are willing to support it in every way that we can. The future of our country depends on the next generation adapting this attitude.
Determination includes teaching children the importance of taking responsibility for their actions, both positive and negative, and practicing responsible behaviors in general. It also includes adapting a healthy work attitude. When you encourage accountability in children, you give them the opportunity to succeed in everything that they do, and as such, become better citizens.
